Ukrainian drones deliver 4 tons of aid to civilians trapped in Russian-occupied Oleshky

Ukrainian forces have used drones to deliver nearly 400 packages of food, medicine and supplies for children to Russian-occupied Oleshky, where thousands of civilians remain trapped amid what local authorities describe as a humanitarian blockade.

The nearly four-ton shipment was the second drone-delivered humanitarian mission to the occupied city in southern Ukraine, Interior Minister Ivan Vyhivskyi said.

National Guard units carried out the operation together with Ukraine's 30th Marine Corps, the 34th Marine Brigade and the State Border Guard Service. Vyhivskyi said all of the nearly 400 packages were successfully delivered.

A Perun drone crew involved in the mission also evacuated six animals from the occupied territory.

Ukrainian forces previously delivered about four tons of food to Oleshky in a similar operation. Tetiana Hasanenko, head of the city's Ukrainian military administration, later said Russian forces had confiscated some of those food packages from local residents.

Oleshky has been under Russian occupation since 2022. Ukrainian authorities say the city and surrounding area are now on the brink of a humanitarian disaster, with regular food supplies cut off since late May.

More than 6,000 people, including around 200 children, may remain in Oleshky and nearby settlements close to the front line. Ukrainian officials say Russian forces are preventing residents from leaving.

Ukraine's human rights commissioner Dmytro Lubinets said in September that Russia had repeatedly failed to confirm its willingness to allow a humanitarian evacuation mission from Oleshky.
