Trump announces Ukraine-Russia energy ceasefire, Zelenskyy says it is “news” to him

US President Donald Trump announced on October 11 that Ukraine and Russia had agreed to immediately stop attacking each other's energy infrastructure. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the announcement came as a surprise but confirmed Kyiv was ready for a ceasefire if Moscow agreed.
“As of this moment, there is an ENERGY CEASEFIRE in effect in the War between Russia and Ukraine. Both sides have agreed. Do not violate it!” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
Zelenskyy told Axios that Trump's announcement was “news” to him.
“If President Trump has agreed on this with Putin, please tell us when the ceasefire will begin. We are ready and will accept it,” he said.
Zelenskyy later said he had discussed Trump's announcement with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, and Finnish President Alexander Stubb.
Ukraine supports a ceasefire and is awaiting details from the United States, Zelenskyy said, stressing that Kyiv fully backs steps toward de-escalation and a lasting peace.
Trump had previously announced on October 9 that he had reached an agreement with Russian leader Vladimir Putin to allow Russian diesel exports to global markets. The US Treasury subsequently issued a temporary license permitting the shipments.
Zelenskyy criticized the decision as an “obvious weakness that plays into Russia's hands.”
