Ukraine backs proposed trilateral talks with US and Russia, seeks early November meeting

Ukraine is ready to participate in proposed trilateral talks with the United States and Russia at the technical level, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on October 21, following US envoy Steve Witkoff's meeting with Vladimir Putin in St. Petersburg.
Zelenskyy said he received a briefing from the US delegation after its talks with Russian officials. According to the American side, Russia had expressed support for a meeting involving representatives of all three countries.
"We support this," Zelenskyy said, adding that Ukraine would prefer the meeting to take place as soon as possible, ideally by early November.
However, no date has been confirmed.
"Russia has said many times that it was ready to meet, and then something changed or was canceled. We'll see how it goes this time," Zelenskyy said.
Witkoff described his discussions with Putin as "constructive" and said they would continue through trilateral talks at the technical level.
Zelenskyy said European partners would also be involved in the diplomatic process. Ukraine's priorities include security guarantees, postwar reconstruction and preparing the groundwork for a possible meeting between national leaders.
