Russia observes ceasefire for humanitarian mission in occupied Oleshky, Ukrainian military says

Russian forces were observing a ceasefire around the occupied town of Oleshky in southern Ukraine as of the morning of October 27, although humanitarian operations had yet to begin, Ukrainian military sources told hromadske.
"The ceasefire is actually holding, but nothing is happening yet," a military source told hromadske.
Ukrainian Marine Corps spokesperson Pavlo Drohal confirmed that Russian forces were observing the ceasefire as of 9 a.m. He said the Marines continued to monitor the situation and would report any significant changes.
The ceasefire took effect at 3 a.m. Kyiv time on October 27 in designated areas to allow humanitarian aid deliveries and prepare for the evacuation of civilians trapped in Russian-occupied Oleshky, Kherson Oblast.
Ukraine's Human Rights Commissioner Dmytro Lubinets said both sides were honoring the agreement reached through negotiations with his Russian counterpart, Yana Lantratova, with mediation and coordination by U.S. First Lady Melania Trump.
The White House previously described Melania Trump as the agreement's "exclusive mediator," saying she had worked directly with Ukrainian and Russian officials to negotiate its terms.
Under the agreement, the next stage of the humanitarian mission involves clearing mines from access routes to Oleshky, followed by aid deliveries and arrangements for civilians to leave the town.
Ukraine's General Staff stressed that the ceasefire was intended exclusively for humanitarian purposes and urged the public not to share unverified information about evacuation routes, schedules or humanitarian convoys.
Oleshky has been under Russian occupation and faces a severe humanitarian crisis. According to Ukrainian reporting, food supplies have not reached the town since late May 2026, leaving residents facing hunger while Russian forces prevent them from leaving.
Ukraine, Russia and the United States are expected to monitor compliance with the ceasefire.
