Fire breaks out at major Russian chemical plant following drone attack

A fire broke out at the Azot chemical plant in Novomoskovsk, Russia's Tula region, following a large-scale drone attack overnight on October 28, regional authorities said.
Tula Governor Dmitry Milyayev confirmed the drone attack on the region.
Azot is one of Russia's largest producers of nitrogen fertilizers, manufacturing ammonia, ammonium nitrate, urea and methanol.
According to Ukraine's Foreign Intelligence Service, the facility has supplied nitric acid to the Sverdlov plant in Dzerzhinsk, which manufactures explosives.
Videos circulating on Telegram purportedly show a fire at the chemical facility. The extent of the damage has not been independently verified.
Separately, a missile alert was issued in Russia's Lipetsk region on the evening of October 27. Air defenses were reportedly activated, and a fire was observed near the Novolipetsk Steel plant, one of Russia's major steel producers.
