Ukraine plans first humanitarian aid delivery to occupied Oleshky in months as ceasefire holds

Ukraine is preparing to deliver humanitarian aid to the Russian-occupied town of Oleshky in Kherson Oblast on October 30, as demining operations continue and a temporary ceasefire remains in effect, Ukrainian Human Rights Commissioner Dmytro Lubinets said on October 29.

According to Lubinets, teams are clearing routes needed for the humanitarian mission while aid supplies are being assembled.

He said the ceasefire, which began at 3 a.m. Kyiv time on October 27, had held for 54 hours without any reported violations.

Lubinets attributed the continued ceasefire in part to direct communication with his Russian counterpart, Yana Lantratova, and thanked U.S. First Lady Melania Trump for her involvement in the humanitarian mission.

The ceasefire, brokered through Melania Trump's mediation, is scheduled to last until 10:59 p.m. on November 1. It is intended to allow humanitarian aid into Oleshky and enable civilians to leave safely.

Oleshky has been under Russian occupation and effectively cut off from food deliveries since late May 2026. Residents have faced severe food shortages, while Russian forces have prevented civilians from leaving the town.

The planned delivery would be the first reported food shipment to reach the town in months.

Lubinets said the ultimate goal is to provide assistance to those who remain in Oleshky and secure safe evacuation routes for civilians.
