Gymnast and dancer, both 15, killed in Russian strike on Chernihiv

Two 15-year-old girls killed in a Russian attack on the northern Ukrainian city of Chernihiv on October 29 have been identified as Yana Pieshkova, a rhythmic gymnast, and Mariia Mozhova, a dancer.

Both attended Chernihiv Lyceum No. 1, which confirmed their deaths in a Facebook post.

Yana trained in rhythmic gymnastics at the local Magic Sports studio.

"She was only 15. She was part of our studio, part of our sports family. A girl who should have had her whole life ahead of her, so many dreams, plans and happy moments," the studio wrote in a tribute.

Ukraine's Youth and Sports Minister Matvii Bidnyi also confirmed Yana's death and offered condolences to the families of both girls.

Mariia was a student at the Vita Dance studio, which remembered her as a kind, caring and bright young person.

"This is an incredible loss for our entire team," the studio wrote. "We love you. You will always be in our hearts."

The two girls were killed in the same Russian attack on Chernihiv. Their school and sports communities publicly identified them on October 30.
