Three Ukrainian power plants halt electricity generation after massive Russian attack

Three thermal power plants operated by Ukraine's largest private energy company, DTEK, have stopped generating electricity after a massive Russian missile and drone attack overnight on November 3, the company said.

Russia targeted the three facilities with dozens of missiles and drones during the night and morning, causing extensive damage.

"The destruction is extensive. The plants have stopped generating electricity," DTEK said in a statement.

The company did not identify the affected plants, disclose how much generating capacity had been lost or provide a timeline for restoring operations.

DTEK said it was continuing efforts to support the stability of Ukraine's power system despite repeated Russian attacks.

The strikes were part of a nationwide Russian assault involving 289 attack drones, 59 cruise missiles and additional ballistic and Zircon missiles.

The main targets included Kyiv, Kharkiv, Vinnytsia and Dnipropetrovsk oblasts.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Russia had primarily targeted critical infrastructure, particularly power generation facilities and substations.

The attack comes as Ukraine's energy system faces continued pressure from Russian strikes ahead of winter.
