Estonian government resigns. Its head will become EU representative for foreign affairs

The government of Estonia, headed by Prime Minister Kaja Kallas, has resigned, reported the Estonian broadcaster ERR.
The Estonian official is expected to become the EU's high representative for foreign affairs and security policy.
At 8:30 a.m. Kaja Kallas and her government gathered for an extraordinary meeting, where they announced their resignation. Kallas will continue to serve as head of government until a new government is formed. The official expressed hope that it will happen quickly.
Kallas became prime minister in January 2021. She notes that it was a very difficult time. And yet, despite all the crises, she is convinced that her government was able to make progress in Estonia and make decisions that were not made before, such as the transition to Estonian-language education.
"We did well. In addition, economic growth at that time was more than 7%, almost 8%, while our neighbors’ — from 2% to 4%," Kallas said.
Earlier, Politico wrote that the question of electing a new head of EU foreign policy is the most uncertain. However, it is the head of the Estonian government, Kaja Kallas, who has the best chances.
The outlet noted that some Western leaders were skeptical of her strong anti-Kremlin stance and feared that Kallas might focus only on Russia and not pay enough attention to other regions, especially the Middle East and Africa. However, that opposition has since died down, as an Estonian politician would be a "perfect fit" geographically, politically and diplomatically.
