USA to announce new aid package for Ukraine ahead of Independence Day – AP

The United States plans to announce a new package of military aid for Ukraine in the amount of $125 million. It is expected that it will be publicly announced on August 23, on the eve of Independence Day, reported the Associated Press, citing unnamed American officials.

The new aid package will include the provision of additional ammunition for HIMARS jet systems, missiles for air defense systems, Javelin anti-tank missiles, anti-drone and electronic warfare systems and equipment, 155 mm and 105 mm artillery ammunition, vehicles, and other equipment.

AP writes that these weapons will be provided within the framework of the presidential drawdown authority, which means that they will be taken from the Pentagon's warehouses and will be able to be delivered to Ukraine much faster.

The announcement of military aid will take place in parallel with the offensive of the Defense Forces of Ukraine in Russia’s Kursk Oblast. Washington stated that they are still discussing how the events in Kursk Oblast fit into Ukraine's strategic goals on the battlefield and its subsequent actions.

Ukraine received the previous military aid package from the USA at the end of July. Then, for the needs of the Defense Forces, Washington transferred air defense equipment, HIMARS artillery ammunition, mortar shells, and Javelin anti-tank missiles. The total value of the package was $200 million.
