After reaching a peace agreement, Sweden is ready to provide Ukraine with Gripen fighter jets and help demine the Black Sea, while Belgium's efforts will focus on maritime and air capabilities, Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson said following Tuesday’s "coalition of the willing" meeting.

After reaching a peace agreement, Sweden is ready to contribute to Ukraine's security guarantees, including:

  • providing Gripen fighter jets for air surveillance over the country;
  • deploying maritime resources for Black Sea mine clearing;
  • continuing training of Ukrainian military officers.

"A prerequisite is of course for a peace deal to be reached, rules of engagement for the multinational force to be clear, and formal approval by the parliament," Kristersson added.

Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever said his country will also take on its share of international efforts to preserve peace in Ukraine.

"Our contribution will focus in particular on providing air and maritime capabilities as well as efforts in the area of training, where Belgium can deliver tangible and meaningful impact," De Wever wrote on X.

On Tuesday in Paris, a meeting of 35 representatives from "coalition of the willing" countries took place. Following the meeting, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed with French and British leaders a declaration of intent to deploy a multinational military contingent in Ukraine after the war.

The U.S. will participate by providing logistical aid and intelligence data. The document also mentions a "U.S. commitment to support the force in case of attack" from Russia.
