A drone hit a multistory residential building in the municipality of Galați, located near the border with Ukraine's Odesa Oblast, while Russian forces were attacking the Ukrainian region, according to Romania's Defense Ministry.

Romanian military radar tracked the drone before it crashed into the building's roof and exploded. Two F-16 fighter jets on combat air patrol had been authorized to engage targets throughout the duration of the air raid alert, the ministry said.

Specialized teams from Romania's General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations and other Interior Ministry units, along with the Romanian Intelligence Service and Romanian police, are working at the scene.

The National Military Command Center notified the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations of the need to issue public alerts. RO-Alert emergency notifications were sent to residents of the border counties of Tulcea, Galați, and Brăila.

Two people suffered bruises and received medical treatment at the scene, Romanian broadcaster Digi24 reported. About 70 residents were evacuated from the affected section of the building.

According to findings by the Romanian Intelligence Service, the drone's entire warhead detonated on impact.
