European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen held her first phone call with Ukraine’s new prime minister, Sergii Koretskyi, discussing drone production, winter preparations and Ukraine’s path toward European Union membership, according to her post on X.
During the call, the two sides discussed the Drone Deal on unmanned systems production. According to von der Leyen, the agreement will make it possible to use the EU’s industrial potential to rapidly produce Ukraine’s innovative equipment on a large scale.
The two officials also focused on protecting Ukraine’s critical infrastructure and preparing for winter. Von der Leyen said the EU would also help improve governance in Ukraine’s energy sector.
In addition, she stressed that Ukraine and the European Union would continue working together on the reforms needed for Ukraine’s accession to the bloc.
On July 16, Ukraine’s parliament approved Koretskyi’s appointment as prime minister. He replaced Yulia Svyrydenko in the post.
