56 Ukrainians out of contact after Nepal floods, none reported killed or injured - Foreign Ministry
Ukraine has lost contact with 56 of its citizens following devastating floods and landslides in Nepal, but none are currently listed among those killed or injured, Ukraine's Foreign Ministry told hromadske.
The figure increased by one after another Ukrainian woman traveling with a foreign tourist group was reported out of contact.
The 56 Ukrainians include two tourist groups of 47 and seven people, as well as two Ukrainian women traveling with a foreign group.
A team from the Ukrainian Embassy in India is working in areas affected by the floods and landslides, while Ukrainian consular officials remain in contact with local authorities coordinating rescue efforts.
Nepalese military and police are continuing search-and-rescue operations, with around 15 helicopters involved, according to the ministry. Ukraine is also coordinating efforts to locate and evacuate its citizens with other countries.
The devastating floods, which began on August 26 in Nepal and neighboring Tibet, have killed more than 160 people, while more than 1,300 remain missing, including around 300 foreign nationals.
More than 500 tourists and pilgrims from 26 countries who were traveling toward Mount Kailash are among those being sought. Rescue efforts have been complicated by widespread infrastructure damage and disrupted communications.
