51 UN members call on Russia to accept immediate ceasefire in Ukraine
Fifty-one UN member states have called on Russia to accept a “full, immediate and unconditional” ceasefire already accepted by Ukraine and enter meaningful peace negotiations.
The countries issued the joint statement ahead of a UN Security Council meeting on Ukraine on Sept. 23. Ukraine has agreed to a full and unconditional ceasefire since March 2025.
The signatories also called on Russia to immediately and unconditionally return Ukrainian civilians who have been detained, forcibly displaced or deported, including children, as well as all prisoners of war and internees.
The statement also backed efforts to ensure freedom of navigation in the Black Sea, warning that Russian attacks on Ukrainian grain exports threaten global food security.
