Russian attacks cause power outages across 7 Ukrainian regions as electricity demand rises
Russian drone attacks and artillery strikes caused new power outages across seven Ukrainian regions on Sept. 22, Ukraine's state grid operator Ukrenergo said.
Consumers lost power in parts of the Kyiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Vinnytsia, Zhytomyr, Mykolaiv, Chernihiv and Sumy regions. Repair crews were working to restore electricity where the security situation allowed.
The outages came as electricity consumption increased amid cloudy and rainy weather. Demand at 9:30 a.m. was 4.5% higher than at the same time the previous day, according to Ukrenergo.
The grid operator said poor weather had reduced output from household solar panels, increasing demand from the national grid. Strong winds and rain also caused separate outages in parts of three regions.
Ukrenergo urged Ukrainians to conserve electricity between 10 a.m. and 10 p.m.
