Spain matches September heat record as temperatures hit 45.7°C (114°F)
Spain has matched its highest September temperature on record, with temperatures reaching 45.7°C in the southern region of Andalusia, according to the country’s state weather agency AEMET, Euronews reports.
The temperature was recorded in the town of El Granado. The same temperature was last recorded in September 2016 in Montoro, also in Andalusia.
AEMET also said January through August 2026 was the hottest such period ever recorded in Spain, calling it an “unequivocal sign” that warming in the country is accelerating.
