Trump’s approval rating falls to 33%, lowest of current presidency - Reuters/Ipsos

US President Donald Trump’s approval rating has fallen to 33%, its lowest level during his current term in office, according to a new Reuters/Ipsos poll.

The survey found that 64% of Americans disapprove of Trump’s performance in the White House. His approval rating has fallen from 35% earlier this month and now matches the lowest level recorded during his first presidency, in December 2017.

Trump returned to the White House in 2025 with just under half of Americans approving of his presidency. His popularity has taken a hit this year after he ordered strikes on Iran, Reuters reported.

The ensuing conflict disrupted about a fifth of global oil trade and drove up gasoline prices, putting pressure on US households - and on Republicans seeking to defend their congressional majorities in the November midterm elections.

About 80% of Americans expect US involvement in Iran to continue “for an extended period of time,” including 87% of Democrats and 71% of Republicans. Only 16% expect the conflict to end within a few weeks.

The poll also found that only one in five Americans - and half of Republicans - believe the war has been worth it.

Concerns over the war and gasoline prices come as Republicans seek to defend their narrow majority in the House of Representatives in the November 3 elections, while Democrats increasingly see the Senate as competitive.

Recent Reuters/Ipsos polling has also shown voters preferring Democrats over Republicans on handling the economy for the first time in about a decade.

The latest Reuters/Ipsos poll was conducted online among 1,166 US adults nationwide and had a margin of error of three percentage points in either direction.
