Musk pours $276 million into Republican midterm campaigns, becoming largest known donor

Elon Musk has donated more than $276 million to Republican political groups since July, making him the largest known individual donor in the 2026 US midterm elections, The New York Times reported. His total contributions during the current election cycle have reached approximately $366 million, surpassing his spending in 2024.
Musk's latest contributions include $158 million to the Senate Leadership Fund, the main super PAC supporting Republican Senate candidates, according to figures provided by his representatives to The New York Times.
Another $76 million went to America PAC, the political action committee Musk founded in 2024. The organization is running a voter mobilization operation in seven competitive Senate races and nearly three dozen House contests ahead of the November 3 elections.
America PAC says its canvassers have knocked on approximately 6.5 million doors nationwide.
Musk also contributed $20 million to the Congressional Leadership Fund, which backs Republican House candidates, and $10 million to a group supporting Republican Senate candidate Ken Paxton in Texas.
His total known contributions to federal political committees during the 2025–2026 election cycle have reached approximately $366 million, compared with roughly $290 million during the 2024 election cycle.
Despite the record spending, Musk has taken a much less visible role in this year's campaign than he did during the 2024 presidential election.
According to The New York Times, he has made only seven direct posts on X this year about candidates in competitive midterm races and has largely stayed away from campaign rallies.
Musk and President Donald Trump have recently repaired their relationship after a public falling-out in 2025, appearing together at several events.
America PAC also intends to remain active during the 2028 presidential election cycle, according to the report.
