Trump claims right to seek third term despite acknowledging constitutional ban

US President Donald Trump has again suggested he has the right to seek a third term in office, even while acknowledging that the US Constitution prohibits him from being elected president more than twice.
“I think I have the right to run again because they cheated,” Trump said during a campaign rally on October 22, according to CNN, repeating his unsubstantiated claims of widespread fraud in the 2020 presidential election.
“I think the law said - I'm not 100% sure - but I think the law says that I'm not allowed to run again. I've studied that phrase,” he added.
The 22nd Amendment to the US Constitution bars anyone from being elected president more than twice.
Minutes later, Trump suggested he also had the right to run for a fourth term, again claiming that the 2020 election had been stolen from him.
Trump has repeatedly floated the possibility of seeking another term, while at other times ruling it out. His online store has also sold merchandise bearing the slogan “Trump 2028,” despite the constitutional restriction.
