Attack on energy facilities and Poland's readiness to find a common solution concerning Ukrainian grain: highlights

Russian occupiers attacked Ukrainian energy facilities for the first time in six months. Ukraine and Poland agreed to find a common solution to grain exports. And Slovakia agreed on a system of trade in Ukrainian agricultural products, so Kyiv will drop its complaint to the WTO. Here's a roundup of the most important news from September 21.

Shelling of energy facilities

On the night of September 21, as well as in the morning, the Russian occupation forces launched a massive missile attack on Ukraine's civilian infrastructure. In addition, they attacked energy facilities for the first time in six months.

At approximately 3:40 a.m., Russian troops attacked Ukraine with 43 Kh-101/Kh-555/Kh-55 cruise missiles, and the Ukrainian military managed to destroy 36 of them. The occupiers also attacked Kharkiv with S-300 anti-aircraft-guided missiles.

Thus, the damage was recorded in Kyiv, Cherkasy, Rivne, Kherson, and Kharkiv, as well as in Kyiv, Lviv, and Khmelnytsky regions.

In total, the attack damaged about 40 buildings and injured at least two dozen people. Rescuers have been clearing the rubble and getting the victims out since the morning, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal wrote.

Attack on Crimea

On the night of September 21, the Ukrainian Defense Forces launched a combined attack on the occupiers' military airfield near the city of Saki in temporarily occupied Crimea and caused serious damage to Russian equipment.

A source in the Security Service of Ukraine confirmed to hromadske that the SBU and the Navy launched a large-scale fire attack on the Saki military airfield in the temporarily occupied Crimea.

At least 12 combat aircraft (Su-24 and Su-30) were at the airfield, as well as a Pantsyr air defense system. The Mojaher drone operator training base is located there. These drones are used by the Russians to coordinate their own air attacks and as combat strike drones.

Decision of Slovakia and Poland on Ukrainian grain  

Ukraine's Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food Mykola Solskyi had a phone conversation with his Polish counterpart Robert Telus, during which the parties agreed to find a common solution to grain exports.

Further talks will take place in the coming days. Representatives of the two countries will discuss the issues prepared by each side. The Polish side will also study Ukraine's export plan and prepare its proposals for it.

At the same time, Slovakia has agreed with Ukraine to sell grain based on issuing and controlling licenses. This will allow the ban on imports of certain Ukrainian goods to be lifted.

For its part, Ukraine has promised to suspend all actions regarding the WTO lawsuit against Slovakia, as well as the application to stop trade in agricultural goods from Slovakia to Ukraine.

Strike on a secret Russian base

Ukraine's defense forces have struck a secret base of Russian forces in temporarily occupied Melitopol, Zaporizhzhia region. The security service found that the occupiers had organized their headquarters at a local engine plant.

As a result of the missile strike, the commander of the 58th Army of the Russian Federation, which is fighting in the Zaporizhzhia sector, and their chief of staff were wounded. In addition to them, several dozen other enemy officers were wounded. Approximately ten of them were eliminated.

Parliament has passed everything needed for EU accession negotiations

The head of the Servant of the People faction, David Arakhamia, said that the Verkhovna Rada has adopted 99.9% of the bills necessary to start negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the European Union.

He noted that today, on September 21, the parliament completed consideration of the European integration bill on national minorities and also considered in the first reading the bill on politically exposed persons (PEPs).

“We are passing the baton to the Cabinet of Ministers and will assist the government in everything that requires our support,” the MP emphasized.
