Fighting for Avdiivka, attack on Russian ships and sentencing of Kniazev's accomplice: October 13 highlights

Fierce fighting for Avdiivka, Donetsk region, has continued for the fourth day since the start of the massive offensive of the Russian occupiers. Ukraine attacked two more Russian ships with naval drones. The High Anti—Corruption Court announced a verdict against lawyer Oleh Horetskyi, one of the suspects in a bribery case in the Supreme Court. We've collected the main news for October 13.
Ukraine attacked Russian ships
The Security Service of Ukraine, together with the Naval Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, attacked the Russian cruise missile carrier Buyan on October 13, and the ship Pavel Derzhavin the day before.
A source in the SBU told hromadske that both vessels were hit by “Sea Babies” with experimental weapons.
According to our source, after the first explosion, Russian minesweepers and divers were unable to detect Ukrainian know-how. However, the day before, the Alrosa submarine managed to escape from the “sea babies”.
Battles for Avdiivka
Fierce fighting has continued for Avdiivka, Donetsk region, for the fourth day since the beginning of the massive offensive of Russian troops on this city. Ukrainian defenders held their positions and are successfully carrying out certain stabilization actions around Avdiivka.
The latest destruction of the city is very heavy: hospitals, administrative buildings, high-rise buildings. There are civilians under the rubble, but they cannot be freed because the shelling does not stop.
According to the head of the Regional Military Administration, Vitalii Barabash, as of the morning of October 13, 1,621 people remained in the city. The evacuation of civilians continues; 7 people have been evacuated in three days.
Shelling
On the morning of October 13, the Russians shelled the center of Pokrovsk. One of the missiles hit the building of the city department of social protection while employees and visitors were there.
As of 17:00, one man was killed and 23 more were injured.

The occupiers also shelled Nikopol, Dnepropetrovsk region, twice. As a result of repeated shelling, two rescuers were injured.
And in Berislav, Kherson region, Russian troops attacked a couple who were traveling on business in their car. The occupiers used a drone against civilians. The man managed to survive, but the woman died.
12 Ukrainians died in Israel
The number of Ukrainian citizens killed as a result of hostilities in Israel has increased to 12 people. Also, some Ukrainians may be captured by the Palestinian group Hamas, the Ukrainian Embassy in Israel reported.
According to the embassy, another 9 Ukrainians are still considered missing.
Kniazev's accomplice was given a suspended sentence
The High Anti-Corruption Court (HACC) extended the preventive measure in the form of detention for the former head of the Supreme Court Vsevolod Kniazev for another two months, but again reduced the amount of bail. Now it is 35 million hryvnia.
In addition, HACC approved a plea agreement between the prosecutor and lawyer Oleh Horetskyi, who is one of the suspects in Kniazev’s bribery case.
The court sentenced him to five years in prison without confiscation of property. But he was released from serving his sentence with a probationary period of three years.
Also, under the terms of the agreement, Horetskyi is obliged to transfer 21 million hryvnias to the “Army of Drones”.
The G7 blocked Russian assets
The G7 countries announced the blocking of Russian assets worth $280 billion. They will remain immovable in the banks of these states until Russia pays Ukraine for military damage.
Banks in foreign countries hold exactly this amount of Russian assets.
The government approved the reorganization of NAU
On October 13, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine agreed on the proposal of the Ministry of Education and Science to reorganize the National Aviation University (NAU).
According to the government decision, NAU will be divided into the state university “Kyiv Aviation Institute” and the Ukrainian State Flight Academy. They will fall under the management of the Ministry of Education and Science.
Previously, NAU asked to stop the reorganization. The university assumed that the planned changes could threaten the suspension of further training of flight personnel in Ukraine and would involve additional costs.
