Oil pipeline rupture, DIU special operation, and return of Ukrainian paratroopers: September 30 highlights

An oil pipeline ruptured in the Ivano—Frankivsk region, injuring nine people. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced the creation of the Defense Industries Alliance. Two Ukrainian paratroopers who were hiding in the occupied territory were returned to Ukraine. Here are the top stories of September 30.

The creation of the Defense Industries Alliance

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced the creation of the Defense Industries Alliance. Thirteen arms manufacturing companies have already joined the Alliance.

Zelenskyy also announced the creation of a special Defense Fund in Ukraine, which will provide additional resources for the development of military production and support of relevant collaborations for the creation of new military facilities and programs needed to ensure defense and take care of Ukrainian service members.

Zelenskyy's announcement was made at the first International Defense Industries Forum in Kyiv, which brought together 252 companies from more than 30 countries.

As part of the forum, the Ukrainian side signed 20 documents with foreign partners.

Oil pipeline rupture in the Ivano-Frankivsk region

On September 30, at 5:00 p.m., a 150 mm diameter oil pipeline ruptured near the village of Strymba in Nadvirna raion, Ivano-Frankivsk region.

Nine people were injured, five of them were hospitalized, including two children.

Oil products spilled and caught fire along a stream over an area of 100 square meters, also spreading to a private house. The fire was extinguished at 5:54 p.m.

Return of the Ukrainian paratroopers

The Ukrainian Navy and the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine have conducted a successful special operation and returned two Ukrainian paratroopers. The service members were forced to hide in the occupied territory for more than a year and a half due to their injuries.

Special operation to recruit a Russian serviceman

Ukrainian intelligence successfully conducted a special operation codenamed "Barynia" and recruited a Russian lieutenant. He, in turn, persuaded and voluntarily transferred 11 other Russian service members to Ukrainian captivity.

Earlier, the DIU noted that after Russian pilot Maksym Kuzminov, who flew an Mi-8 helicopter to Ukraine, held a conference where he told how he surrendered, and that the number of daily requests to the I Want to Live («Хочу жить») increased to 170 applications per day or more.

Training for Ukrainian veterans

On September 30, a demonstration training session for strongmen veterans took place on Kontraktova Square in Kyiv.

On October 15, at the Arnold Classic international sports festival in Madrid, Ukrainian veterans will try to pull four trucks weighing 35 tons in a sit-up with a rope. If they succeed, they will set a world record for the strongman in this exercise.

New date for the Ukraine Defenders Day

On October 1, Ukraine will celebrate the Day of Defenders on a new date for the first time.

Previously, it was October 14, but in July, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a law that provides for the postponement of the dates of three public holidays: Christmas, Ukrainian Statehood Day, and Ukraine Defenders Day.

This change is made due to the transition to a new calendar for the Orthodox Church of Ukraine and the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church.
