Operation DRAGONFLY: Ukrainian military destroys 9 Russian helicopters, other equipment in overnight attack
In the early hours of October 17, the Ukrainian Defense Forces destroyed nine Russian helicopters of various modifications during strikes on airfields in occupied Berdyansk and Luhansk, reported the Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The Special Forces said that they had received information about Russia's use of airfields in the temporarily occupied Berdyansk and Luhansk, as well as about the presence of a significant number of aviation and special equipment, as well as ammunition.
As part of the DRAGONFLY operation, the information was verified and confirmed. The coordinates and necessary data were passed on to the Ukrainian Defense Forces for destruction.
As a result of the attack overnight on October 16-17, the enemy suffered significant losses.
The Armed Forces of Ukraine report that the following units were destroyed in Berdyansk and Luhansk:
- nine helicopters of various modifications;
- special equipment that was at the airfields;
- an air defense launcher;
- an ammunition depot.
The runways of the airfields were also damaged. As noted, the ammunition depot in Berdyansk detonated until 4 a.m. The detonation in Luhansk lasted until 11 a.m.
The aggressor's losses in manpower amount to dozens of dead and wounded, and bodies are still being removed from the rubble, the Ukrainian Armed Forces reported.
