Polish strikers who blocked border checkpoints rejected Ukraine's proposals. The Kyiv Court of Appeal upheld the detention of businessman Ihor Kolomoisky. A group of MPs told the police that ex—adviser to the Presidential Office Oleksii Arestovych could have provided a false report of a crime. We have collected the main news for November 16.
Polish strikers rejected Ukrainian proposals
The ministries of infrastructure of Ukraine, Poland, and the European Commission have developed joint decisions to unblock the movement of trucks on the border with Poland and proposed them to Polish protesters. But these proposals were not agreed upon.
The Ministry of Infrastructure explained that the key demand of Polish protesters is a return to the permit system. In June 2022, an agreement on “visa-free transport” was concluded. In particular, it freed Ukrainian carriers from the need to obtain permits for bilateral and transit transportation to EU states.
This demand cannot be met, as stated by the Ukrainian side.
Meanwhile, the Polish RMF FM, citing its own information from Brussels, writes that the European Commission may begin criminal proceedings against Poland if the Polish authorities do not resolve the issue of blocking checkpoints on the border with Ukraine.
Kolomoisky's detention was upheld
The Kyiv Court of Appeal left businessman Igor Kolomoisky in custody.
The Kyiv Court of Appeal upheld businessman Ihor Kolomoisky's detention.
Kolomoisky’s lawyers asked to cancel the decision of the Shevchenkivskyi District Court, which extended the businessman’s detention for another two months.
They stated that the suspicion regarding Kolomoisky is unfounded, and there are no risks due to his release from custody. The businessman’s defense also noted that 3.8 billion hryvnia is an exorbitant amount of bail for Kolomoisky. But, in the end, the appeal court rejected the defense.
A criminal case was opened against Arestovych
A group of people's deputies told the police that the ex-adviser of the Presidential Office, Oleksii Arestovych could have provided a false report of a crime.
In September, Arestovych said that through the court he ordered the State Bureau of Investigation to open a case against MP Nataliia Pipa. In her actions, the ex-adviser of the OP sees “signs of inciting ethnic hatred in Ukraine”.
According to deputies, the ex-adviser to the Office of the President could have provided deliberately false information about the crime. Eventually, investigators began criminal proceedings against Arestovych.
