Search in Dnipro completed, fighting near Soledar: highlights of the day
Search and rescue operations have been completed at the site of the Russian missile strike on a high—rise building in Dnipro. Defense Forces continue fighting on the Bakhmut axis, a Russian attack aircraft was destroyed near Soledar. The Presidential Office has dismissed its freelance adviser Oleksiy Arestovych. Situation in Dnipro
On January 17, after 69 hours of round-the-clock work in Dnipro, search operations at the site of the Russian missile attack on a high-rise building were completed. According to the latest data, 45 people died there, including six children. Also 79 people were injured, including 16 children. 20 people remain missing, including four children. 15 bodies of the dead have not been identified.
The families affected by the Russian attack will be allocated 1 million hryvnias ($27,200) for the fastest purchase of housing on the secondary market, the city council reported.
Situation in the east
According to the General Staff, the occupiers do not give up their intention to capture Donetsk Oblast within the administrative borders. The main efforts of the Russian troops are focused on conducting an offensive on the Bakhmut axis. The occupiers are also unsuccessfully conducting offensive actions on the Avdiyivka axis.
The command of the Air Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces reported the destruction of a Russian Su-25 attack aircraft near the city of Soledar.
The spokesman of the Eastern grouping of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Serhiy Cherevatyi told us that the Bakhmut axis remains one of the most active areas of the front. Ukrainian troops continue to fire at the enemy.
"We hold our positions in Soledar, we are constantly firing at the enemy, not allowing them to gain a foothold," noted the spokesman.
The Security Service of Ukraine published a video of the work of special forces against the invading forces near Bakhmut.
Dismissal of Arestovych
The President’s Office granted the application of Oleksiy Arestovych and dismissed him from the post of freelance adviser. Arestovych posted his resignation letter on Facebook on January 17. In it, he asked to be dismissed from the post voluntarily. He explained his decision as follows: "I want to show an example of civilized behavior: a fundamental mistake, therefore, resignation".
New sanctions against Russia
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen confirmed that the EU is preparing the 10th package of sanctions against Russia in response to Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
According to her, this package will mainly focus on "closing loopholes to put an end to evasion (of sanctions – ed.) and introducing large-scale consequences for those who circumvent EU sanctions".
