The visit of inspectors from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is scheduled for next week. Logistics routes are currently being discussed, said Adviser to the Minister of Energy Lana Zerkal on the air of Ukrainian Radio station Radio NV.
"The IAEA mission is scheduled for the next week. Now all logistics routes are being discussed, how to get there," said the Adviser.
Although the Russians agreed that the mission would go through the territory controlled by Ukraine, the occupiers are artificially creating conditions so that "the mission does not reach the facility due to the situation around it," Zerkal says.
After the complete disconnection of the Zaporizhzhia NPP from the power grid, IAEA Director General Raphael Grossi stated the urgent need to visit the plant.
Bloomberg earlier reported that the IAEA was considering visiting the Zaporizhzhia NPP until September 5. Even before the start of a full-scale war, the IAEA had planned to visit the Zaporizhzhia NPP for two weeks in September 2022 — it was supposed to be the first inspection in 16 years. Amidst the Russian aggression, the mission will also be able to assess the consequences of shelling the NPP. These findings can be used to bring the perpetrators to justice.
Ukraine has repeatedly emphasized the need for an IAEA mission at the ZNPP. President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that the mission could quickly and safely get to the station in a legal way through the free territory of Ukraine.
