Ukrainian military conducts counterattacks near Pokrovsk — Forbes

The Defense Forces of Ukraine conduct local counterattacks in the Pokrovsk sector. Reinforcements could help the Ukrainian Armed Forces slow down the pace of the Russian offensive, reported Forbes.
The Russian army outnumbers the Ukrainian forces near Pokrovsk by about four times.
The Ukrainians reportedly kept four or five brigades in reserve, each of which had up to 2,000 soldiers and hundreds of pieces of equipment. Now some of these reserves are joining the fight along the last line of defense five or six miles from Pokrovsk and its vital supply routes.
According to the media, local counterattacks are currently carried out by the following Ukrainian units: National Guard brigade Kara-Dag, 12th Azov Vrigade and 93rd Mechanized Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Forbes, however, warns against "expecting immediate dramatic changes around Pokrovsk."
At the same time, the Ukrainian Center for Defense Strategies believes that without success near Selydove, the Russian invasion forces cannot continue their offensive on Pokrovsk.
"Now that fresh and well-equipped Ukrainian troops are in Selydove, and attacking, the Russian conquest of Pokrovsk—once seemingly inevitable—is looking a little less likely," Forbes writes.
On September 5, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Oleksandr Syrskyi stated that the Defense Forces were able to stop the advance of the Russian army in the Pokrovsk sector.
What is happening on the Pokrovsk front?
As early as August 27, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Oleksandr Syrskyi stated that the Pokrovsk axis remains the "hottest" and the most intense battles are taking place there. In recent weeks, there have been more than 50 clashes there. On average, the Defense Forces neutralize up to 300 Russian soldiers in this direction.
According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as of 8 a.m. on September 7, during the day in the Pokrovsk sector, Ukrainian defenders repelled 49 assaults by Russians in the areas of the settlements of Sukha Balka, Oleksandropil, Zelene Pole, Vozdvyzhenka, Novotroitske, Hrodivka, Novohrodivka, and Mykhailivka. The greatest concentration of attacks was near Novohrodivka, Hrodivka, and Mykhailivka.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that the command is reinforcing the sector with Ukrainian forces, and called the key task there — to knock out as many of the occupation forces as possible.
