The exposure of medical commission head with her son and attack on oil depot in Russia: October 4 highlights

Defense Forces attacked Annanefteprodukt oil depot in Russia’s Voronezh Oblast, and the head of the medical and social expert commission in the Khmelnytskyi Oblast and her son, the head of the regional Pension Fund, were exposed for illegal enrichment. We collected the main news for October 4.

An attack on a Russian oil depot

Overnight, Ukrainian drones struck the Annanefteprodukt oil depot near the village of Anna in Russia’s Voronezh Oblast.

A hromadske source in the SBU reported that there were 20 fuel tanks at the oil depot hit by the Defense Forces. Enemy air defense was active in the area of the base, but, according to hromadske's source, without success. Local channels reported a fire as a result of drone attacks.

Exposure of the head of MSEC commission and her son

Law enforcement officers uncovered that the head of the medical and social expert commission in Khmelnytskyi Oblast, along with her son, the head of the regional Pension Fund, had illegally enriched themselves with millions of dollars.

During the searches, they found almost $6 million in different currencies in cash alone. $100,000, as well as a number of forged medical documents, lists of draft dodgers with names and fictitious diagnoses were found in the office of the head of MSEC.

During the investigation, the head of MSEC tried to get rid of part of the money by throwing two bags containing $500,000 out the window.

The law enforcement officers pressed charges against the officials under a number of articles. They face up to 12 years in prison.

A car with a collaborator was blown up in Enerhodar

In the temporarily occupied Enerhodar, a car exploded in which Andrey Korotky, the "chief of physical security" of the captured Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, was traveling.

Korotky is called a collaborator who is involved in the organization and execution of war crimes and repression of Ukrainians under occupation. In addition to being a member of the United Russia party, he headed the "Council of Deputies" in Enerhodar.

Russian troops 7 km from Pokrovsk

Serhiy Dobryak, head of the Pokrovsk City Military Administration, said that the Russian army continues its offensive on Pokrovsk in Donetsk Oblast, and the enemy is already 7 km from the city. Currently, about 13,000 civilians remain there, including 94 children.

Russian forces have destroyed approximately 80% of the city's critical infrastructure, Dobryak adds.

Reports on executions of Ukrainian prisoners of war

The Ministry of Defense has determined that at least 177 Ukrainian soldiers died in Russian captivity after the start of the full-scale invasion, according to Politico.

The Prosecutor General's Office announced that they have information about the execution of 93 Ukrainian prisoners of war on the battlefield at the hands of the Russian military.

The corruption whistleblower received a reward

The whistleblower is an active serviceman who in 2020-2021 held the position of director of the internal audit department of the Ministry of Defense.

The serviceman reported that he was offered a bribe of 24 million hryvnias ($583,177) for a "positive" audit opinion regarding works ordered by the Ministry of Defense, performed by a contractor company. In March 2023, the ex-deputy head of one of the departments of the Ministry of Defense was sentenced to four and a half years in this case.

The possibility of rewarding corruption whistleblowers was introduced back in 2019.

Elementary school students will be fed free of charge

Pupils of grades 1-4 of general Ukrainian schools will have free meals in educational institutions. The innovation will start working already in October this year.

2 billion hryvnias ($48.6 million) were allocated from the budget to provide free meals for children. The government will transfer this money to local communities in the form of a subvention. Previously, children with special needs had free meals.

Attacks on Kharkiv Oblast

During the day, Russian occupation forces bombed Kharkiv Oblast. Two men were killed as a result of guided aerial bombs, another man was injured due to a drone attack.
