Resignation of Khmelnytskyi regional prosecutor, fight in Cherkasy church: October 17 highlights

The head of the Khmelnytskyi Prosecutor's Office resigned after the investigation into his involvement in the corruption scheme of the head of the local medical commission, Tetiana Krupa, began. A fight broke out near a church in Cherkasy between supporters of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine and the Moscow Patriarchate church. We collected the main news for October 17.

Dismissal of the Khmelnytskyi Oblast prosecutor

The head of the Khmelnytskyi regional prosecutor's office, Oleksiy Oliynyk, resigned from his post at his own request. Earlier, journalists found out that he was among those who received a disability group thanks to the decision of the head of the regional ьedical and social expert commission Tetiana Krupa.

Oliynyk himself said that he received the disability group in 2017, long before he was appointed to the position. He suffered injuries at the workplace in 2005, when he was studying the materials of criminal proceedings.

Fight near the church in Cherkasy

In Cherkasy, near the St. Michael Cathedral, a fight broke out between supporters of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine and the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate. This happened after the announcement that the church had passed from the control of the UOC MP to the OCU.

The police started criminal proceedings over hooliganism.

Ukraine and Greece signed a security agreement

In Brussels, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Prime Minister of Greece Kyriakos Mitsotakis signed an agreement on cooperation in the field of security.

Greece promised to provide defense needs of Ukraine. In particular, the country will provide additional resources to accelerate the training of Ukrainian pilots and technical personnel for F-16 aircraft.

Help from Norway and the Netherlands

Norway will allocate 250 million euros in aid to support the Ukrainian energy industry. With these funds, the energy infrastructure damaged by Russian attacks will be repaired, as well as new facilities will be built.

The government of the Netherlands will allocate 271 million euros for artillery shells for Ukraine. This assistance will be provided within the framework of the Czech initiative.

A lawmaker is suspected of illegal enrichment

Servant of the People MP Iryna Kormyshkinia was charged with illegal enrichment of more than 20 million hryvnias ($485,243).

With these funds, she bought a house in Odesa, where she currently lives. At the same time, her official income for this period and savings would not allow her to do this.

The monastery in Rivne Oblast is subordinate to the Russian Orthodox Church

The only monastery in Ukraine that is directly subordinate to the Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church and Patriarch Kirill of the Russian Orthodox Church still operates in Korka in Rivne Oblast.

The law banning religious organizations associated with the Russian Federation should limit its activities. However, the State Service for Ethnopolitics and Freedom of Conscience reported that representatives of the monastery did not contact them regarding the re-registration of the charter and change of their subordination.
