US elections, execution of Ukrainian prisoners of war, language conflict in Kyiv: November 5 highlights

The United States of America is electing a new president. Russians shot six captured Ukrainian soldiers. In Kyiv, men attacked a woman who reprimanded them over their use of the Russian language. We collected the main news for November 5.

American president is being elected

The current US Vice President Kamala Harris and former US President Donald Trump are competing for the post.

In anticipation of possible street violence in Washington, new fences were erected around key government buildings. US special services have warned about operations to influence elections by foreign countries, in particular Russia and Iran.

Former US President Donald Trump and his wife Melania Trump have already voted at their polling station in the state of Florida. When asked if he would ask his supporters to refrain from violence, Trump said there was no need.

Shooting of captured soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine

On the Pokrovsk axis in Donetsk Oblast, the Russian military shot six more captured soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. On October 23, three soldiers who were captured near Selydove were shot, and on November 1, three more were killed in the same sector.

The law enforcement officers started an investigation into the fact of war crimes that caused the death of prisoners of war (Part 2 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

In Kyiv, a woman was attacked for making remarks about the Russian language

In the capital's Sens bookstore and coffee shop, men attacked a woman who reprimanded them because of the use of the Russian language. The woman says that she tried to film everything on her own mobile phone, to which one of the men reacted aggressively and snatched the gadget from her hands.

The woman filed a complaint with the police, where the violator was issued an administrative report for minor hooliganism.

New property was found among the participants in the MSEC scheme

Secret assets worth millions of hryvnias were found among those involved in the fake disability scheme: residential buildings, apartments, land plots, cars, weapons, and millions of hryvnias in accounts.

According to ARMA, a large number of the identified assets were acquired by the participants during the full-scale war and registered in the name of people close to them.

The first clash of the Defense Forces with the North Korean military

The Minister of Defense of Ukraine Rustem Umerov confirmed that the Ukrainian military had the first interaction with the North Korean military in Russia’s Kursk Oblast.

Umerov expects a significant number of North Korean troops to be on the battlefield in the next few weeks. It is predicted that the North Koreans will be organized into five groups of approximately 2,500 to 3,000 people each.

The list of objects where power will not be turned off has been updated

The Cabinet of Ministers has changed the list of facilities to which blackout schedules will not be applied until June 1, 2025. These are the facilities of the Security and Defense Forces and mobile operators.
