Russia reported a massive drone attack. hromadske revealed a doctor profiting from cancer patients by convincing them to refuse traditional treatment. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko appealed to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, claiming attempts to destroy local self-government in the capital. Here are the key events for January 29.

Massive drone attack on Russia

The Russian Ministry of Defense reported a massive drone attack on several regions in Russia. Drones targeted an oil depot in Kstovo, Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, among other sites. The Ukrainian Defense Intelligence organized this attack.

Ukrainian drones also struck a Russian oil pumping station Andreapol and a missile arsenal in Tver Oblast. The Russian Ministry of Defense reported a total of 104 drones attacking Russia.

New hromadske investigation

Doctor Vasyl Chayka is profiting from cancer patients by convincing them to refuse traditional treatment and charging 15,000 hryvnias ($358) per hour for consultations, according to a new hromadske investigation.

Chayka holds a medical degree in pediatrics. Other qualifications listed on his website include a 5-day rehabilitation training in Vinnytsia, 250 hours of courses from an Ayurvedic center in India, and a Russian osteopathy school. The Ministry of Health's open registry shows he was licensed for rehabilitation services in 2020. Legal experts confirm that, by law, Chayka is not authorized to treat anything beyond rehabilitation.

Klitschko's appeal to Zelenskyy

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko accused certain individuals in President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's circle of attempting to "unbalance power and destroy local self-government" in Kyiv.

Klitschko specifically accused the head of the Kyiv City Military Administration, Tymur Tkachenko, of trying to usurp the powers of the mayor, city council, and the Kyiv City State Administration. Klitschko cited "violations of the law" in his statement.

Finland develops new drone for Ukraine

Finnish company Insta introduced the Steel Eagle drone, developed in collaboration with Ukrainian experts. The drone will be sold on the Ukrainian market.

The Steel Eagle is equipped with a propeller designed by Insta's Ukrainian partner, a radio signal system for control, data transmission capabilities, and pilot goggles with a first-person view mode.

Debunking Russian claim of capturing Novoyehorivka

The Third Separate Assault Brigade denied Russian claims of capturing the village of Novoyehorivka in Luhansk Oblast.

On January 20, the Russian Ministry of Defense claimed to have occupied the village, releasing a video supposedly filmed in the brigade's area of responsibility. The brigade asserted that the video actually shows the destroyed village of Kovalivka, highlighting Russian propaganda's attempt to create an "illusion of success."

Slovakia rotests Ukrainian interference

The Slovak Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the Ukrainian ambassador and expressed strong protest, accusing Ukraine of interfering in Slovakia's internal affairs.

The protest followed a statement by the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs that Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico is "poisoned by Russian propaganda."

FM Sybiha to attend European and U.S. ministers' meeting

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha will participate in an expanded meeting of foreign ministers from France, Germany, Poland, Italy, the UK, Spain, and the USA.

The meeting is scheduled for February 12 in Paris. The agenda for the meeting has not been disclosed.
