Kyiv’s Shevchenkivskyi District Court ordered 60-day detention without bail for Liudmyla Chymerska, suspected of attacking activist Serhiy Sternenko, on May 2, hromadske’s correspondent reported from the courtroom.

The court placed Chymerska in custody until June 29 under charges of attempted murder, with an additional charge of treason.

Prosecutors, seeking detention without bail, noted Sternenko sustained a gunshot wound to his thigh, though the extent of injuries is still under evaluation.

Chymerska’s lawyer, Anatoliy Yurchenko, claimed Russian operatives, posing as Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU), recruited her by blackmailing her for treason and falsely alleging Sternenko worked for Russia’s FSB and orchestrated Kyiv attacks.

Chymerska, who said she has a first-degree disability requiring thrice-weekly hemodialysis, claimed she trained to shoot before the attack and received a gun from an unidentified man in Kyiv’s Borschahivka neighbourhood.

She noted she is married, has a higher education, and requires a kidney transplant.

Yurchenko requested house arrest due to her health, but the court upheld detention, mandating hemodialysis in custody as medically required.

Attack on Sternenko

On May 1, Sternenko reported surviving an attack, sustaining a non-life-threatening injury, and suggested Russian involvement while praising the SBU’s swift response.

The SBU released a photo of the detained suspect, confirming the attack involved a firearm.

The agency said Chymerska began surveilling Sternenko in mid-April, renting an apartment in his residential complex, and on May 1, used a hidden PM pistol and ammunition from a cache to attempt the killing near his home.
