Andriy Smyrnov, former deputy head of Ukraine’s Presidential Office, was ordered detained with an 18 million hryvnia ($430,100) bail option in a corruption case involving illegal enrichment, his lawyer Inna Butenko told hromadske.

In May 2024, Smyrnov was first charged with illegally acquiring 15.7 million hryvnia ($375,142) between 2020 and 2022, including two cars (Mercedes-Benz and Volkswagen), two motorcycles (Honda and BMW), three parking spaces in Kyiv, a Lviv apartment, and a Zakarpattia land plot.

The National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) and Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO) recently added charges of money laundering and accepting a large-scale bribe offer.

Smyrnov suggested NABU and SAPO rushed the new charges due to expiring deadlines in the initial illegal enrichment investigation, hromadske reported.

In March 2023, hromadske interviewed Smyrnov about judicial reform prospects and a media investigation involving his brother, which raised questions about asset acquisitions.
