Half of Ukrainian refugees in Poland still plan to return home, survey finds
More than half of Ukrainian refugees living in Poland say they intend to return to Ukraine, but most plan to wait until the war is over, according to a new survey by Ukraine's Rating Group.
The poll found that 51% intend to return, including 8% who are prepared to do so in the near future and 43% who plan to return after the war. Another 26% said they do not plan to return, while 23% were undecided.
Security and stability in Ukraine were by far the most important conditions for returning, cited by 71% of respondents. Economic development was cited by 36% and employment opportunities by 26%.
At the same time, many Ukrainians have become increasingly established in Poland. Seventy-three percent of respondents said they were employed, with 87% of those working in Poland. Sixty percent said they spoke Polish at an intermediate or advanced level.
Some 44% said they would like to live permanently abroad, while 43% said they would not. Thirty-four percent said they were considering obtaining Polish citizenship or had already applied.
Rating Group surveyed 1,000 adult Ukrainian refugees in Poland online from Aug. 21 to 25. The reported margin of error was no more than 3.1 percentage points.
