Rail engineer killed, his colleague injured in Zaporizhzhia Oblast drone strike

A Ukrainian Railways locomotive engineer was killed and a colleague was injured in a Russian drone strike in Zaporizhzhia Oblast, the company’s chairman of the board, Oleksandr Pertsovskyi, reported.
According to preliminary information from Ukrainian Railways, both the monitoring group that identified the threat and the station staff who twice reported the danger acted in line with instructions and guidance.
The Russian drone hit between the tracks near a freight locomotive, Pertsovskyi said. The engineer was killed. His colleague received assistance and sustained only minor injuries.
“We are reconstructing the events second by second; data recorders are being decoded to determine exactly why the worst could not be avoided,” Pertsovskyi said. “The information will once again be conveyed in detail to every locomotive crew member, so it is always top of mind.”
He added that daily threat monitoring saves the lives of railway workers and passengers.
“Any delay or lack of clarity in the current circumstances—when the enemy relentlessly hunts everything rail-related—costs lives. Eternal memory to our colleague, the engineer. A very bitter loss. Terrorism as it is—the enemy is deliberately killing civilians,” he said.
