Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov says the situation with Russian banks is "completely stable and controlled", despite the EU sanctions, the Russian "Interfax" reports.

Peskov says that Russia, despite “certain difficulties,” allegedly controls its banking sector. He called the sanctions imposed by the EU against Russia “illegal.”

“This is not new: you know that our largest banks have been under sanctions for a long time. This does not prevent banks from making large profits, developing, maintaining absolute stability, and their highest possible reliability ratings,” Peskov said.

Earlier, on June 9, the European Commission presented a new 21st package of sanctions against Russia, introducing transaction bans to 31 more Russian banks and to 20 banks, crypto firms or platforms and oil traders in third countries which have been servicing sanctioned Russian entities and individuals or circumventing EU measures.
