Russian forces dropped six guided aerial bombs on the city of Sumy on Wednesday, killing at least three people and injuring 17 others, regional governor Oleg Hryhorov reported.
One of the bombs hit near a hospital. Civilians and cars were in the blast area. The other strikes, according to preliminary information, hit infrastructure facilities.
One of the bombs hit a nearby hospital. It is noted that civilians and cars were at the epicenter of the explosion. Other strikes, previously, were on infrastructure facilities.
Among the dead were a man and a woman. A third person suffered extremely severe injuries, making it impossible for now to determine the person’s sex. Authorities are still establishing the identities of all those killed.
Among the 17 injured was a 16-year-old boy. He and two other seriously wounded people were being operated on by doctors. Other injured people were still being examined, while some had already received treatment and were released home from the hospital.
The situation in Sumy Oblast
On the evening of July 14, enemy drones also struck targets within the Sumy territorial community, hitting civilian infrastructure.
The previous evening, Russian forces struck a residential area on the outskirts of Sumy, apparently using a cluster munition. That attack injured seven people, including an 11-year-old boy. A 30-year-old man and a 59-year-old woman remained in serious condition.
Over the course of July 11 alone, six people were killed and 42 were injured in Sumy Oblast.
Hryhorov said the number of guided bomb strikes on Sumy has increased. According to him, such attacks were isolated earlier this year, but in June alone Russian forces carried out 29 strikes on the city, and since the start of July they have already carried out 16.
Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov said air defense in Sumy Oblast would be reinforced because of the worsening security situation. He said the region has been under “unprecedented fire pressure” since the start of the year and that Russian forces are not reducing the intensity of their attacks.
