Putin accuses Ukraine of trying to attack Kursk NPP

Russian dictator Vladimir Putin accuses the Ukrainian military of attempting to strike the Kursk Nuclear Power Plant overnight on August 21, he said at a meeting with governors of regions of Russia bordering Ukraine, news agency RIA Novosti reports.
Putin "expressed hope that the IAEA will send specialists to assess the situation at the plant."
Meanwhile, the governor of the Kursk Oblast, Aleksey Smirnov, said at the meeting that the situation at the Kursk NPP is calm and everything is working normally.
Before that, media reported that IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi plans to visit the Kursk NPP in the coming days, and then meet with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Kyiv.
Grossi says the IAEA is "extremely concerned" by the fighting near the Kursk Nuclear Power Plant. According to him, outdated Soviet reactors do not have the necessary protection. Earlier, he called on the parties to exercise "maximum restraint" and assured that the IAEA is "monitoring the situation."
Igor Korpunkov, the mayor of Kurchatov, where the Kursk NPP is located, reported a "tense" situation due to the fighting.
