Foreign media claimed that the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, will never recognize the occupation of part of the Ukrainian territories, but he allegedly agrees to freeze hostilities on the current front line. The President's Office has, however, denied the journalists' allegations.

The Italian publication Corriere della Sera wrote about Zelenskyy's alleged readiness to freeze the war.

According to journalists, the Ukrainian president will never officially renounce the territories occupied by Russia, because "this is too unpopular for any Ukrainian politician." At the same time, he allegedly seeks commitments from the West, in exchange for which he may agree to cease fire along the current front line.

The guarantees that Zelenskyy is allegedly seeking from the United States may be similar to those that Japan, South Korea, and the Philippines have received from them. Meanwhile, Italy, France and Germany allegedly have to assure Zelenskyy about the quick accession of Ukraine to the European Union.

Dmytro Lytvyn, adviser to the president of Ukraine on communication, said that the journalists' information is "false", and stressed that Ukraine's position on the end of the war is set out in the "peace formula", Interfax-Ukraine quotes him as saying. It is on this basis that negotiations with partners are ongoing.

"The victory plan, which will be presented to Britain, France, Italy and Germany in a few days, is a tool to push the situation towards the implementation of the Peace Formula," the adviser explained.

Background

The Financial Times published an article about the Western foreign policy circles discussing the "German model" for ending the war in Ukraine. It assumes that Ukraine will be offered to join NATO without the occupied territories, which it must agree to return diplomatically.

In response, Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that it is possible to guarantee reliable peace and long-term security only on the basis of international law and without any trade in sovereignty or territories.

Even earlier, the FT wrote that the Ukrainian Foreign Minister, Andrii Sybiha, discussed with Western colleagues the possibility of a compromise to settle the Russo-Ukrainian war. In this, he was "more pragmatic" than his predecessor, Dmytro Kuleba. Later, the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs denied the newspaper’s information.
