During the full-scale invasion, Ukraine lost 60,000 to 100,000 soldiers killed. Probably up to 400,000 soldiers were wounded, according to The Economist estimates, which rely on the data of reports of intelligence services, defense departments, and open sources.

Such reports are extremely difficult to independently verify, and they also do not reflect the number of missing soldiers. However, according to rough estimates, Ukraine's losses range from 60,000 to 100,000 soldiers.

At the same time, the Ukrainian resource UAloses, which was also analyzed by the Economist, identified a little more than 65,000 dead soldiers by name, but journalists call such data insufficiently comprehensive.

The number of losses of the Russian army is not mentioned, but it is believed that they greatly exceed the total number of Russian fatalities in all wars that Moscow has fought since 1945. In July, the Economist calculated that up to 140,000 soldiers died in the war in Ukraine.

Losses of Ukraine

In September, the Wall Street Journal provided an estimate of Russian and Ukrainian losses in the war, based on unofficial estimates, including Western intelligence. So, the number of dead and wounded Ukrainian soldiers allegedly reached almost half a million people. Total losses on both sides amount to approximately 1 million.

The WSJ estimated the number of dead Ukrainian soldiers at 80,000, while Russian at approximately 200,000. Allegedly, there are about 400,000 wounded people in the Ukrainian army and the same number in the Russian army.

According to the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the number of losses on the part of Ukraine is much smaller. In February, the head of state declared that Ukraine had lost 31,000 soldiers killed.
