Russians release another video showing alleged execution of unarmed Ukrainian prisoners — commissioner

A video is circulating on social media showing the alleged execution of at least five unarmed Ukrainian soldiers who were captured by the Russian troops, as reported by the Commissioner for Human Rights of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Dmytro Lubinets.

"Once again, we see cynical disregard for international humanitarian law on the part of the Russian army. Those who give orders and carry out such atrocities must bear strict responsibility," he said.

The commissioner sent letters to the UN and the ICRC to have the war crime recorded.

If you witnessed or have any information regarding this crime against Ukrainian soldiers, the ombudsman urges you to immediately report it to the hotline at 0800 50 17 20 .

Executions of captured Ukrainian fighters

As of November 2024, law enforcement officers were investigating 53 criminal proceedings into the shooting of 177 soldiers. In October-November alone, 13 such proceedings were registered against 54 soldiers.

Last year, the number of criminal proceedings opened over the murders of Ukrainian prisoners of war by Russians more than quadrupled, compared to 2022 and 2023.

Three indictments have been sent to court. The courts of Chernihiv Oblast handed down two life sentences to Russians who killed prisoners during the occupation of the villages of Sloboda and Lukashivka in March 2022.
