Russian brigade behind deadly Sumy attack hit again in Ivanovo Oblast
The 112th Guards Missile Brigade, based in Shuya, Ivanovo Oblast, accused of launching a deadly missile strike on Sumy, Ukraine, on Palm Sunday, faced a second drone attack overnight into April 17, according to the Russian Telegram channel Astra, citing eyewitness videos.
Ivanovo Oblast authorities declared a drone attack alert around 4:30 AM, though reports of explosions in Shuya emerged earlier.
Eyewitness videos, geolocated to Shuya’s Kooperativnaya Street, showed strikes about 180 meters from the 112th Brigade’s military compound, Astra reported.
Ukraine’s Defense Intelligence chief, Kyrylo Budanov, previously stated that the 112th and 448th Missile Brigades were responsible for the April 13 Sumy attack, which killed 35 civilians.
On April 16, Ukrainian Liut (‘Fury’) drones struck Shuya’s Yuzhny Gorodok district, home to the 112th Brigade.
On April 15, Ukraine’s Defense Forces hit the 448th Brigade’s base in Kursk Oblast, causing secondary ammunition detonations.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy vowed retaliation for the Sumy attack, stating, “We won’t leave the scum who kill our people in peace on this earth. We have every right to do so. It’s absolutely fair to respond to murderers as they deserve. Russia must come to terms with the inevitability of Ukraine’s strength.”
