Ukrainian 92nd Brigade survives 12-day encirclement near Pokrovsk
Infantrymen from the 92nd Assault Brigade endured 12 days of encirclement in the Pokrovsk sector, eliminating around 10 Russian troops, with two soldiers experiencing their first combat mission after joining the Ukrainian Armed Forces under contract, according to the brigade’s statement.
Ten days before the encirclement, soldiers from the brigade’s 3rd Assault Battalion were tasked with advancing and securing a position in an undisclosed village. The soldiers recalled facing a heavy influx of Russian forces, with 30–40 attackers daily.
Their commander ordered them to reach the village’s edge, where three soldiers were stranded without communication. Upon arriving, the newly deployed group held their position, effectively surrounded.
“We didn’t know what to do. We stayed quiet as mice to avoid detection. When they entered our yard, we fought back,” said soldier Dmytro.
The brigade noted that the first few days were calm, but Russian forces eventually spotted them, leading to intense mortar shelling and FPV drone attacks.
“They held a position in a Russian-occupied village, survived heavy shelling, and eliminated every Russian soldier who approached,” the brigade stated.
On the ninth day, new radios and an evacuation route were airdropped, but the coordinates led to Russian-held territory.
“I’d lost all hope. I took off my gear, put down my weapon, gave my phone and password to the guys, and went for the drop. I found one; the guys got the other,” said soldier Nazar.
Two of the encircled soldiers were new recruits under the “18–24” contract program, marking their first combat mission.
Over the 12 days, the group eliminated approximately 10 Russian soldiers and, during their escape, evacuated two wounded brothers-in-arms.
