Russian strikes target energy and gas infrastructure in six Ukrainian regions
Overnight, Russian forces launched attacks on energy and gas transportation infrastructure across six Ukrainian regions, according to Ukraine’s Ministry of Energy.
The targeted oblasts included Sumy, Poltava, Donetsk, Chernihiv, Kharkiv, and Zaporizhzhia. Emergency and rescue services are responding at the strike sites, where damage assessments are ongoing.
"We view the Russian attacks as a continuation of the Russian Federation's deliberate policy of destroying Ukraine's civilian infrastructure ahead of the heating season. This is yet another act of energy terrorism directed against the civilian population," the Ministry of Energy stated.
In Sumy, the strikes caused power outages in parts of the city, with water utility facilities de-energized and switched to emergency backup power.
In Poltava Oblast, an energy sector facility sustained damage to its administrative building, vehicles, and equipment, with fires breaking out at the site.
In addition, on Tuesday, Russian troops struck the DTEK enrichment plant in Donetsk Oblast. The building was destroyed as a result of the attack.
