Russia hits Ukraine with 96 drones, targeting energy infrastructure

Russian forces attacked Ukraine with 96 drones overnight, primarily targeting energy infrastructure, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Ukraine's Air Force reported.
The assault involved Shahed, Gerbera, and other drone types, with about 60 being Shaheds. Air defenses neutralized 69 targets.
27 drones struck seven locations, with debris from downed drones affecting one additional site.
On Monday evening, Russian forces hit Kharkiv, including a city hospital, injuring 57 people. Energy infrastructure in the region was also targeted.
In Kirovohrad Oblast, civilian infrastructure, including railway facilities, was damaged in two settlements.
Sumy Oblast saw strikes on energy facilities and an enterprise.
Donetsk Oblast was also under attack. Response teams are working on-site, and restoration efforts are underway.
Zelenskyy emphasized that Russia targets power plants, transmission lines, and gas facilities "daily and nightly." He urged partners to provide Ukraine with sufficient air defense systems.
"The world can deprive Moscow of the ability to carry out such brutal attacks against life. Our partners know what is needed for this: Patriot, NASAMS, SAMP/T, and other vital systems. We count on action from the United States, Europe, the G7, and all partners who have these systems and can provide them to help protect our people. Ukraine needs sufficient air defense capabilities to shield its skies from missiles, drones, and glide bombs so that Russia’s aerial terror becomes meaningless," Zelenskyy wrote on X.
Energy infrastructure attacks
As cold weather set in, Russian forces intensified strikes on Ukraine's civilian and energy infrastructure. Naftogaz reported that an attack on its facilities overnight into October. 3 was the most massive since the full-scale invasion began. Zelenskyy noted that 35 missiles targeted gas facilities alone that night.
On October 5, Russian forces launched another large-scale combined attack on gas infrastructure and energy facilities.
Overnight into October 10, Russia again struck energy targets. Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko said it was one of the largest attacks focused specifically on energy infrastructure.
According to Ukrenergo, the strikes caused power outages for consumers in Kyiv, as well as Kyiv, Donetsk, Dnipropetrovsk, Cherkasy, Chernihiv, Kharkiv, Sumy, Poltava, and Odesa oblasts.
