Russia hits Ukraine with over 300 drones, missiles, cuts power in 10 regions

Russian forces bombarded Ukraine overnight into Thursday with over 300 strike drones and 37 missiles, including many ballistic ones, targeting energy and civilian infrastructure, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said, while Ukrenergo and DTEK reported emergency power outages in multiple regions.
Zelenskyy detailed the assault, noting attacks on infrastructure in Vinnytsia, Sumy, and Poltava oblasts.
In Nizhyn, Chernihiv Oblast, Russian strikes damaged a post office and an apartment building, wounding one person.
In Kharkiv Oblast, critical infrastructure and emergency service facilities were hit, with injuries reported. Restoration efforts are underway.
Zelenskyy said Russian tactics involve initial Shahed drone strikes with cluster munitions, followed by repeat attacks to target firefighters and energy workers responding to damage.
"This autumn, the Russians use every single day to strike at our energy infrastructure. Putin has turned a deaf ear to everything the world says, so the only language that can still get through to him is the language of pressure – pressure through sanctions and pressure through long-range capabilities," he said, previewing talks during his October 16-17 Washington visit.
Power outage details
Due to severe strain on the energy system from prior Russian strikes, emergency blackouts were imposed in the city of Kyiv, as well as Kyiv, Kharkiv, Sumy, Poltava, Zaporizhzhia, Kirovohrad, Dnipropetrovsk, Zhytomyr, and parts of Khmelnytskyi and Cherkasy oblasts.
In Chernihiv Oblast, systematic attacks led to hourly power cuts across three priority groups, with repair work ongoing.
From 4:00 p.m. through the end of the day, Ukrenergo warned of possible power limits for industrial consumers in all regions, affecting two priority groups. The company urged citizens to use electricity sparingly and avoid running multiple high-power appliances simultaneously.
