Ukrainian Defense Forces hit Russian arms plant, oil refinery

Ukrainian Defense Forces struck several strategic targets inside Russia overnight into Wednesday, including a mechanical plant in Mordovia and an oil refinery in Dagestan, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported.

Ukrainian troops hit the Saransk Mechanical Plant in the Republic of Mordovia, which produces anti-personnel engineering munitions and mining kits, detonators for ammunition and initiation components, the General Staff said.

Explosions were recorded on the factory grounds.

The Makhachkala Oil Refinery in the Republic of Dagestan was also struck, with a hit confirmed on one of the refinery's processing units, the military said.

The plant primarily supplies and stores fuel for the Russian Caspian Sea Fleet's naval base and refuels occupiers' warships, with an annual processing capacity of up to 1 million tons.

The extent of damage is being assessed, the General Staff added.

Mordovia head Artem Zdunov said earlier that a drone strike damaged one of the republic's enterprises. OSINT resources identified it as the Saransk Mechanical Plant.
