Russian troops beat, execute captured Ukrainian soldier near Pokrovsk
Russian forces killed a Ukrainian prisoner of war near the village of Hnativka in Pokrovsk district, Donetsk Oblast, the regional prosecutor's office reported.
The incident occurred in November. During an assault on Ukrainian positions near Hnativka, Russian troops surrounded and captured a Ukrainian serviceman.
One Russian soldier tied his hands while another struck him several times in the head with a rifle butt. When the unarmed soldier stopped responding, they shot him dead.
The deliberate killing of prisoners of war violates the Geneva Conventions and qualifies as a serious international crime.
Donetsk regional prosecutors have launched a pre-trial investigation into the war crime causing death (Part 2, Article 438 of Ukraine's Criminal Code).
Urgent investigative actions are underway to establish all circumstances and identify the perpetrators.
