Ukraine strikes Russian oil platforms in the Caspian Sea for the third time in a week
Long-range drones of the SBU's Alpha Special Operations Centre struck Lukoil-Nizhnevolzhskneft oil platforms operating in the Caspian Sea for the third time in a week, told hromadske a source familiar with the matter.
This time, the strike hit a platform at the Korchagin oil and gas condensate field. As a result of the attack, critical equipment at the facility was damaged, and production was halted.
“Security Service of Ukraine continues its active work aimed at reducing the flow of petrodollars to the Russian budget and, accordingly, Russia’s ability to finance its war against Ukraine. No Russian facility working for the war machine is safe, regardless of its location,” the source said.
On 11 December, it was reported that the SBU launched a drone attack at the Filanovsky oil platform in the Caspian Sea. The next day, it was reported that the Filanovsky platform had been hit again and that the Korchagin platform had also been attacked. Both facilities belong to Lukoil-Nizhnevolzhskneft.
Meanwhile, the Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that Russian ships had been hit near the coast of Russia's Republic of Kalmykia in the Caspian Sea. The ships Kompozitor Rakhmaninov and Askar-Sarydzha, which Russia uses for military purposes, were attacked. Detailed information about the route and cargo of the damaged ships was provided by representatives of the Russian resistance movement Chernaya Iskra.
